Comparative studies on scintillation properties of Eu-doped CaAl<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>, SrAl<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>, and BaAl<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub> crystals

Abstract Eu:CaAl 2 O 4 , Eu:SrAl and Eu:BaAl crystals with various dopant concentration were synthesized by the optical floating zone method, photoluminescence, scintillation, afterglow properties investigated. Under X-ray irradiation, exhibit a broad emission band at 440, 520, 500 nm due to 5d-4f transitions of Eu 2+ respectively. The decay time constants are consistent typical values . Photoluminescence quantum yield scintillation light evaluated, each property was compared comprehensively understand characteristics.
